About Andy Whitney
Andy Whitney has spent more than forty years working with young children, their parents and their teachers.
He began as an early childhood teacher and went on to work as an international school administrator, teaching, training teachers and advising families in schools around the world. Over four decades he has watched thousands of children move through the years between two and eight, and has sat with the parents trying to do right by them.
He is the author of Parenting Points: Raising a Happy and Capable Child and Hold My Hand. Both books are written in plain language, for parents rather than for professionals, and both come from the same conviction: that most parenting problems are not solved by theory, but by understanding what a child is actually trying to do.

is dedicated to guiding parents through the joys and challenges of early childhood. We provide clear, practical advice, real-life examples, and easy-to-understand explanations to help parents make informed decisions and nurture their children with confidence. Our approach is positive, constructive, and sensitive, focusing on supporting your child’s growth while addressing common parenting dilemmas.
Founded by Andy Whitney, an early childhood educator with over 45 years of experience, Parenting Points draws from a wealth of knowledge gained from classrooms, workshops, and international teaching experiences. Andy’s career has taken him around the world—from the United States to Algeria, Peru, Indonesia, South Korea, and Singapore—always driven by a passion for working with young children and the people who guide them.
Andy earned his degree in Child Development from the University of Maine and a Master’s in Education from Harvard University. Yet he often says some of his greatest lessons have come from the children, parents, and teachers he’s worked with along the way.
Today, Andy splits his time between the U.S. and Indonesia with his wife, inspired every day by the curiosity and joy of young learners. Parenting Points continues to be a resource for families seeking guidance, encouragement, and insight on raising happy, capable children.
